Marc A. Borenstein, MD, FACEP, FACP, is the director of the Emergency Medicine Residency Program for Health Quest, now part of Nuvance Health. He has served as an examiner for the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM), and a member of the ABEM Case Reviewer Panel, Case Development Panel and Standard Setting Committee since 1990. Dr. Borenstein has been a member of the Council of Residency Directors in Emergency Medicine (CORD) since its inception, and he has previously served on the CORD Board of Directors. He has also been a member of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) since its inception, where he is currently chair of the SAEM Consultation Services Committee.
Serving in leadership capacities including program director, division chief and department chair, Dr. Borenstein has built an unequaled track record in academic emergency medicine. He helped establish, restore and/or stabilize ACGME accreditation for six emergency medicine residency training programs at the University of Connecticut, Hartford; University of Missouri, Columbia; St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Medical Center, Manhattan; Newark Beth Israel Medical Center; Lincoln Medical Center, the Bronx; and the University of Florida, Gainesville.
Dr. Borenstein has built and strengthened multiple academic departments and academic divisions of emergency medicine–all dedicated to clinical excellence, humanistic values, diversity, a patient- and family-centered experience, and the dignity of the human spirit. He has a life-long passion for, and commitment to, teaching, continuous learning, faculty renewal, the doctor-patient relationship, and the utilization of effective communication in medicine to create exceptional teamwork, reduce medical error and enhance patient safety.
