Agdel J. Hernandez-Colon,
Program Director, Psychiatry Residency
Dr. Hernandez-Colon serves as program director of the Psychiatry Residency Program and medical director of the Department of Psychiatry at Putnam Hospital Center. Dr. Hernandez-Colon will oversee clinical and educational experiences for the program. He is a board-certified and fellowship-trained consultation liaison and emergency psychiatrist with more than ten years of clinical experience. He has been passionate about resident and medical student teaching since his time as a chief resident.
Dr. Hernandez-Colon previously was the medical director of inpatient psychiatry and associate program director of residency at Hackensack-Meridian Jersey Shore University Hospital in Neptune, NJ. He was for several years the medical director of the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program at Brookdale University Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. He spent most of his career in emergency psychiatry in different hospitals in New York City.
He completed training in psychiatry at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, and a fellowship at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in Manhattan, NY. He is also a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine with graduate training in surgery and internal medicine.
Dr. Hernandez-Colon enjoyed working in integrated care and with underserved populations throughout his residency training and attending positions.
