Associate DIO, Program Director, General Surgery Residency
Dr. Mark Hirko serves as the Program Director for the General Surgery Residency Program and Assistant Vice President for Surgical Specialties at Health Quest. His responsibilities include coordinating and standardizing all Health Quest Medical Practice surgical services, developing undergraduate and post-graduate surgical education programs including a general surgery residency, and collaborating with senior administration and physician leadership to provide advanced care and service across Health Quest.
An Ohio native with more than 20 years of experience in surgery, Dr. Hirko previously held the position of chair of the department of surgery, director of the general surgery residency program, and medical director of the vascular lab at Monmouth Medical Center, part of Barnabas Health System, in Long Branch, N.J. As chair, he served as the clinical and administrative leader of the department and oversaw more than 200 employees.
Dr. Hirko completed his internship and residency in general surgery at Akron City Hospital in Akron, Ohio, and later served as a clinical and research fellow in vascular surgery at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Ill. He earned his medical degree from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and received his master’s degree in biology from the University of Akron.
